Weekly Report - May 24-25, 2008

This week we said “good bye” to one of the pillars of Woodside Bible, Norm McComb. Norm and Linnie came to Woodside in the early 1960’s. Over the years Norm has been a great stabilizing force at Woodside. God has used him to build buildings at the church and around the world for our short-term projects. Norm has always been a great leader. He was a man of vision, who was willing to take risks to reach people for Christ.

To me, Norm was a friend, a counselor and a great source of encouragement. I enjoyed his positive nature, his sense of humor and his faithful support. I, along with all of us at Woodside will miss him greatly. The arrangements are as follows:

Visitation: Price Funeral Home, Rochester Road in Troy
Friday, May 23 from 4-8:00 PM
Saturday, May 24 from 2-7:00 PM

Funeral/Visitation @ Woodside Bible Church – Troy Campus
Visitation - Sunday, May 25 from 2-3:00 PM
Funeral – Sunday, May 25 at 3:00 PM

Dinner following in the Community Room

Please pray for Linnie and the family.

Weekly Update - May 17-18

This coming weekend will be one of the most exciting and pivotal weekends in the history of Woodside. Not only is it a weekend of prayer and “Commit to the Vision,” but it involves our Annual Celebration.

Dr. Al Mohler will be speaking live at the Troy campus and on video at Warren and White Lake. Pray for Dr. Mohler as he preaches and for the technology at the campuses to enhance the communication.

Our 24-hours of prayer kicks off at White Lake at 6:00 PM, Friday and then moves to Troy and then Warren. Please find a slot that works for you and come and pray with a group from Woodside. Great things happen when God’s people pray. But, I think that best things happen inside the people who do pray.

Would you pray for our people as they make their final prayerful preparation for “Commit to the Vision?” Pray that God would be honored and lifted up through this commitment weekend.

Thanks for your prayers.

Weekly Update - April 25-27, 2008

If you were in church last weekend you know that we are entering a major, critical point in the life of Woodside. There is so much to pray about as we move forward to accomplish our vision statement, “to impact this region and beyond with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ.”

Join with me in prayer that God would overwhelmingly work in and through the people of Woodside during this next month of commitment. Pray that every person and family would prayerfully consider what God would have them to do. This process can be a great spiritual adventure for each person and ultimately for Woodside.

I would appreciate your prayers for me during this next month. I want to be used of God in this process. Pray that I would experience God’s grace in wisdom, strength, patience and rest.

This weekend we are dealing with a difficult passage of Scripture, 1 Peter 3:18-22. Dave McKenna, Mike Wendland and I will be preaching on the three campuses.

Weekly Report - April 19-20, 2008

Dear Prayer Partner,

Greetings on this beautiful day that God has given us. Enjoy every minute of it.

This weekend is a huge weekend in the life of Woodside. We have experienced the Lord’s blessing in so many ways including numerical growth. This has brought us to the place of the necessity to expand if we continue to reach more people with the gospel of Jesus Christ. I will be sharing the building and funding plans for expansion this weekend.

1. Pray that I would be clear in delivering the message.
2. Pray that God will use the message to challenge our congregation.
3. Pray that our people would respond by prayerfully considering their role in this plan.
4. Pray that this would be another moment when people would rally around the vision: “To impact this region and beyond with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ.
5. Pray that the technology will work as we tape Saturday PM at Troy and then broadcast at Warren and White Lake on Sunday AM.

The next month will be a month of prayer for Woodsiders as we look to the future. This will culminate in a day of prayer May 16-17. Would you lead the way in prayer?

‘Til the Trump,
Doug

Weekly Update - April 12-13, 2008

Well another week has raced by. I hope that your week was a good one with your family, with your work and with your God. My wife has reminded me often that “there is joy in the journey”. I tend to think of getting to the destination ASAP. Join me in enjoying each day, each moment, each second as an incredible gift from God and an opportunity to serve Him.

This week in the services our attention turns to husbands in I Peter 3:7. I will be at the Troy Campus, Dave McKenna will be at Warren and Patrick Smith will be at White Lake. We need your prayers as we attempt to preach this verse with accuracy, authority and sensitivity.

The memorial service for Al Young will be on Monday at 11:00. Pray for the family and pray that God will use the Words of Scripture to heal, comfort and save..

May God continue to bless you and use you. Thanks for your support and prayers.

Your servant in Christ,

Doug

Weekly Update - April 4-6, 2008

Andrew Murray once said, "Beware in your prayers, above everything else, of limiting God, not only by unbelief, but by fancying that you know what He can do. Expect unexpected things, ‘above all that we ask or think’. Each time, before you Intercede, be quiet first, and worship God in His glory. Think of what He can do, and how He delights to hear the prayers of His redeemed people. Think of your place and privilege in Christ, and expect great things!"

I encourage you this week to follow the example of this humble follower of Jesus Christ who new something of the importance of prayer in the believer’s life. Let’s “expect unexpected things” from God as we pray and look to the expansion of Woodside Bible Church.

This week we will be focusing in on the submission of wives to their husbands as found in 1 Peter 3:1-6. This will be an encouraging time to see that differences in function does not negate equality of essence. We see this in the Godhead. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit are all equal and yet they have different functions.
